20th Century Fox and the Disney - The Merger of a Lifetime

The Powers that Be (aka the shareholders of Fox and Disney) have finally spoken. And with a move nearly as powerful as the snap of Thanos' fingers while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet, Disney is poised to successfully take over the characters once held under the Fox umbrella. (As well as gaining the rights to shows such as the Simpsons and This is Us.) Unlike the deal with Sony to simply share movie rights of Spider-Man, Disney is outright purchasing Fox, absorbing their extensive film and television productions into their own.

Perhaps most importantly to those reading anything by us, is what this means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This merger gives Disney control of some of the most successful franchises outside of Disney's jurisdiction including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Oh, and who can forget Deadpool? Our biggest hope? That Deadpool will point out the obvious: why are their so many Johnny Storms in the MCU? Chris Evans, Michael B. Jordan, and whoever will inevitably end up playing the character when Marvel finally does that team justice. Although that poor guy has got big shoes to fill. I mean...

Chris Evans can just hand over the Johnny Storm and Captain America mantle to the new guy!

See? Deadpool agrees.

And while we can speculate as to how we'd like to see these things actually roll out, ultimately, we'll have to wait until San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) and D23 in 2019. Marvel has kept everything close to the chest following the release of Avengers: Infinity War, even going so far as to skip Hall H at SDCC. (Although they had a significant presence as far as posters and promotional materials were concerned.) With next year's Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, it seems likely that Marvel wants those two films to close the "book" on the first 10 years of the MCU. After that, they can announce their next 10 years of films, hopefully with a Fox property or two thrown in.

And did you think we had forgotten Star Wars? Maybe we'll get the Fox logo and music before the films again. They just haven't quite felt the same without them.
